A Client's Story “I am absolutely terrified of going to the dentist. It hasn't always been this way – I was fine growing up, but had some… we'll say 'challenging' dental appointments when I got a little older. It started off small – I would get nervous going, and try to avoid my appointments. But then it got worse – I would have anxiety, and not sleep well just thinking about an upcoming appointment. With time, I started making up excuses of why I shouldn't go – it's not that bad, it's no big deal, the pain will go away – you know, the lies you tell yourself when you're not doing what you are supposed to be doing. It was almost 20 years since I saw a dentist when I saw Dr. Daniel on television talking about sleep dentistry. I cannot tell you how difficult it was to make the first appointment – I wanted to cancel it, and thought of a million reasons of why I shouldn't go. But I realized I had to go – I owed it to myself. My mouth is a mess – back teeth broken, pain all the time, not being able to chew… I was more afraid of what he'd find than of the actual appointment… The first appointment was where it all changed. The team knew about me – they were kind and empathetic. The office felt nothing like a dental office. And Dr. Daniel truly understood what I felt – I mean he really got it. I kept my jacket on, and didn't have to sit in the chair. He made me comfortable, and we talked – face to face – and he listened to me. To everything that had happened, to what was going on in my own head, and somehow, someway, I felt better. Just being able to share my story with him felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders. It wasn't long after that, I began my therapy. Dr. Chisolm, the anesthesiologist, was amazing – I slept through all my appointments, I don't remember anything. I am now pain free, eating, chewing – smiling – all the things I thought I'd never be able to do again… Thank you Dr. Daniel, for giving me back something I thought I had lost forever.” signed, Please note: due to the personal nature of sleep dentistry, all names and photos remain confidential and are not used for publication unless requested by the clients. |
