Comprehensive Examination

The Comprehensive Examination is designed to provide you with a comprehensive assessment of the health, function and beauty of your smile. It covers all aspects of your dental health and gives you a variety of treatment options using the most advanced techniques in cosmetic and optimal dentistry available.

The consultation will take approximately 1 hour to complete. Additional time may be scheduled depending on your specific needs. The following comprehensive evaluation is used to develop your custom treatment plan:

Dental Health Goals

We will discuss your present level of dental health and explore your dental history before performing your comprehensive clinical examination.

Comprehensive Clinical Examination:

Periodontal Status – We will start with a thorough examination of your periodontal health, assessing the gums, soft tissue and bones that support your teeth. We look for signs of gum disease, oral cancer, gum recession and bone loss during this part of the exam.

Structural Status – A complete assessment of the health of each individual tooth, as well as the condition of any existing restorations (such as fillings, crowns and bridges) or prostheses (such as partial and complete dentures).

Occlusal Status – In order to have a complete understanding of your present state of dental health, we will gather data about your masticatory system, which encompasses your muscles used in chewing, your jaw joints, and bite (the way your teeth fit together and interact). It is important for us to evaluate if these three components are working together in harmony, or if you have bite disease, which can lead to premature aging and destruction of your teeth.

Digital Panoramic and Intra-Oral Radiographs

As part of the examination process, we will take digital radiographs of your teeth and jaw bones.

Digital Photographs

We use the complete set of close-up photos of your teeth and face taken during your initial consultation. These photos are used so that you can view the current condition of your teeth, and are taken during your dental procedures to document the progression of your treatment.

Treatment Plan Options

The final part of the consultation is when we pull all the information together to create a custom treatment plan for you. Before advising you on your treatment options, we will examine the results of your comprehensive clinical examination along with the radiographs and digital images of your teeth and smile.

We will create a treatment plan that addresses your concerns and any problems discovered during the examination process. We will then discuss options that will help you achieve your smile goals, or achieve Optimal Dental Health, within your timeline and budget.

By understanding your options, you can make an informed decision on your dental care. You may decide to start with the recommended treatment immediately, or you can prioritize and complete it over time. We give you the flexibility to choose the option that best meets your needs.
